Week 4: Mystery Sauce
![]()
I’m thinking about starting a blog about the adventures or misadventures of my wife’s pregnancy with our third child. The first two were a blur - I seemed to do everything right the first time, the second pregnancy we all slacked up a bit, and we can only image the debacle for this pregnancy. Ha-ha.
I noticed that every pregnancy is different and for some reason, the dark side of me is telling me that this one is going to be a bumpy ride. So; we start out with the how my wife found out that she likes prego sauce… I mean she was prego… you know what I mean.
Happy Birthday
My wife is NEVER late for her monthly menstrual cycle. She started to indicate to me that she might be prego all day, Sunday, February 17, 2008. I forgot what we did that day, but I kept reassuring her to wait it out, “You’re not pregenant - don’t even think that way, haha.” Later on that day, for some strange reason, I got very very peaceful about the whole thing. That’s when I new she was pregnant and God has already dealt with me to accept it. I told her, “Go ahead and get the home pregnancy test, if you want - I’m cool with it.” She got, took it and found out on her 28th birthday that she was pregnant. It quickly followed with a 15-minute consoling hug and she then rushed off to figure her numbers (make sure we can afford another baby).
Mystery Sauce
I was at work, around 3:30 PM and my wife called me and said that she’s going to the ER because she’s bleeding more than she’d like “down there”. We quickly organized ourselves because she had Leeanne with her and she was going to pickup Alex from school. Lucky for us, Mario and Cameal were around. So; I left work and caught the four o’clock bus and met up with my brother at the airport/train station (ATL).
Quick Paranoia
Funny side-story is I thought I was being followed by a “black man” while at the airport. I noticed this fella while getting off the train, but didn’t think twice about it. I made my way towards the restroom (as most folks do) and I bumped into his baggage. He immediately asked me if he could use my cell phone, because his is acting up. I gave him my cheap verizon cell and not my blackberry. He made his call, shook my hand, and I quickly whisked off to the bathroom.
Now I’m usually not so aware of my wallet, but while going to the bathroom my wallet felt so heavy in my back pocket. I buttoned the pocket and thought to myself, “Why does my wallet feel so heavy, is some invisible person trying to steal my wallet!?” I found a stall and I noticed that the same guy that used my phone was standing next to me. “What is this!?” I thought, “No problem, everyone uses the bathroom.” So; I moved on to wash my hands and the guy was next to me again. “Yo; this is not looking good. Does he want to rob me?” I scurried along to the south-side of the airport to wait on my brother. I thought if I’m on the phone then he won’t be so quick to gank me. As I’m calling my brother I applied an odd pattern to my way out - basically dodging and weaving the on-coming traffic of people. It was so “white” of me (no offense).
Stirring up the Mystery Sauce
Yeah; so back to the story. My brother picked me up with Leeanne in the car. We picked up Alex from school and headed towards Union City. My wife called me and said I should feed the kids - so we went to McDonalds. Urgh! I hate taking the kids to McDonalds, but that’s probably the only guaranteed food they’d eat at the time. We fed the kids and made our way to the hospital. It was a long ride (or seemed that way) and I would get periodic calls from my wife letting me know what’s going on. They were going to take an ultra sound. We got to the hospital, thanks to Google Maps on my Blackberry and I took the kids inside.
At this point I was already tired, and had to gear myself up to handling both kids in a public place for God knows how long. We got inside and a lady took us to the room where my wife was (room 21). She went to do the ultra sound and there was a lot of stuff the kids could break in that room so I opted to go back into the waiting room. We went to the kiddy room and Alex played with the chairs (making a train) and Leeanne walked around throwing stuff to the ground. It was a bit tough, I had to sit in the middle of the door - blocking anyone else that wanted to freely come in - because I needed a fail safe way of keeping the kids inside that room.
Mario and Cameal were there, but Mario felt really bad about leaving me with both the kids. I tried to reassure him that I was OK with the kids. He eventually helped me get the car seat and some other stuff into my car and when we got back they left (to go grocery shopping). Man at this point it was me trying not to lose my cool, because there is NO backup.
Alex had to use the rest room and that was another adventure of holding Leeanne and stopping Alex from touching everything in sight. After that ordeal I had to change Leeanne, lucky for us there were a set of couches outside the bathroom so that helped. We were informed that my wife was back in her room and I got the kids there as soon as I could. It was a long night. The result of her ultra sound were inconclusive because it’s too early in the pregnancy. We got the kids more food for their in-house chicken joint, I got the car and we headed home. The night didn’t end when we got home because putting Alex to bed is always a chore for me. My wife helped out and the house is a complete mess.
As for my wife, she is still spotting a little, but all looks well so far. We’re just waiting it out and I’m forcing my wife to take it easy. She’s complying! ![]()
