I was sorely disappointed with G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra when it first released. I said to myself, “If they ever make G.I. Joe movie, it BETTER be good.” I wanted to slit my wrist the day I witness that movie [don't worry, I didn't]. Skimming Google Trends I saw “G.I. Joe: Retaliation” and clicked on it. To my surprise this movie trailer is pretty good. I really loved the music, the costumes look revamped, and the action scenes look pretty decent. Then again; it is a movie trailer… I’m a little liery of Bruce Willis, but whatever man. I’ll give this movie another chance — one last chance!

It’s probably not a real movie, but I love it. I would certainly spent my money to support a movie like this. It’s in a different language so make sure you can read the captions.

I’m thirty-years old and in the year twenty-ten I finally experienced 3D in a movie theater! My wife was more in shock about it than you.

I’m glad to say that I’ve contributed to the blockbuster movie sales of James Cameron’s Avatar and experienced yet another great Tim Burton masterpiece, Alice in Wonderland. Two great movies and two totally different 3D experiences. Come; see me banter on about the “avatar experience” and the twisted add-on to a timeless classic.

James Cameron’s Avatar

The wife and I finally saw this ground-breaking movie. The movie was released December 10, 2009 and we saw it January 24, 2010. We were concerned that the movie would be pulled from the movie theater because it’s been out for so long. Boy were we wrong. The movie has already made billions of dollars world-wide. When we arrive at the IMAX Theater with only minutes to showtime, to our surprise, the movie was sold out! We ended up getting tickets for the regular theater viewing (still in 3D).

This was my first ever 3D experience. I realized that I’m very fortunate to have my first experience be Avatar and not any of the other movies using the quirky 3D effects. Overall; I had a great time. People rag on about the story not being so deep and twisted, but I thought it was well played. I think Jame’s purpose was to not overwhelm people since the visual effects of the movie would already do that.

It took me a while for my eyes to adjust to the subtle 3D effects. After I got comfortable, I really lost myself into what was going on. Sure I could narrate the hero’s every move, but that’s just a product of us being so used to complex storyline.

Alice in Wonderland

The story in this movie is awesome! I loved the fact that they weren’t retelling “Alice’s Adventure in Wonderland.” The cast was well done and I will certainly buy this movie when it’s available in BluRay. The only thing I could have done without was the 3D effects. It actually took me out of the movie, the 3D effects kind of got in my way.

I’m too tired to really post a long drawn-out synopsis of both of these movies. Avatar is basically the model for doing a movie in 3D and Alice in Wonderland is not, plain and simple.

There was a short segment on NPR’s Wait Wait… Don’t Tell Me! podcast; they were talking about 3D movies and how people will actually miss watching movies in 2D. So; I got the idea to write this. I actually agree with them. In the distant future, we will become so used to the 3D emersion of movies that actually watching them in 2D will become a novelty. So much so that the young hipsters will schedule a “1999 2D Movie Party” and VH-1.0 will host a series titled “How I Loved My 2D Movies.” Just a thought.

My wife and I finally got another date night in the bag. We went to see the well anticpated and ravely reviewed “The Incredible Hulk”. From the title you can tell that my wife and I thought this movie was garbage. Truth that they stayed true to a comic-book style, but a lot of the scenes were not believable. How the army can reign havoc on a college campus or in a city and there be NO consiquences is beyond me. Overall; it’s a summer action flick, but it is not as awesome as people were ranting on about.

Personally; I like the first one. Even though it was more dramatic than this one, it showed me the human side of the Hulk, which in turn made me respect and fear him more. The pure action-packed Hulk in the latest movie is just another creature to avoid.

My wife made a good point and it was they primarily made this movie only to link the new Avengers movie coming out. This movie was not necessary, but the last scene in the movie told us ALL why it even came out.

Oh glorious day; the day when a father can pass down one of his traditions to his son. In this case, it would be watching (and liking) some of my old cartoon shows – such as Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Not the new ones, this is the old ones from my era as a kid. My brother and I would watch this show all the time, draw pictures, record it on VHS and watch the episodes over and over and over again.

Recently Mario bought the first couple seasons from Columbia House. I happened to be at his house watching the kids I put it on to see if he’d take to it. And boy did he ever. He barely moved – every time it the ending credits came on he’d say, “I need more turtles.” I assured him the next episode would come. At the end of the night, we were ready to leave and I told him we’re going. He pissed and moaned about “his turtles”. I told him no, but I thought it’d be OK with Mario if I borrowed it. Alex looked at the DVD artwork all the way home.

Today’s Outing

On another note we finally went to the pool today and it was very nice. The pool has alot of 2-3 feet playing area so Alex had more room to roam around. It was nice, but I still had to watch him so he wouldn’t drown himself. I forgot who got him a Lightening McQueen floater, but we put some air into it (from my lungs) and it was also cool having a floating device that fully kept Alex on top of the water without my intervention.

Later on we went bicycle riding in the complex and that was pretty OK too. Alex is learning to ride the full kiddy bike my parents bought him. He’s more used to the peddling on his tricycle than the regular pedals on a bike – but he is making great progress. The only issue is when he’s finished with the bike – I have to be the one to carry it – and it’s remarkably heavy, for a kid’s bike.

Both kids are asleep and I don’t know what to do right now (wierd). I’m tired of the computer and we don’t have many DVDs. I guess I’ll have to watch Back to the Future, again!

For some reason I seem more optimistic than I did before. I really hope this movie turns out well. What’s so funny about this is when move studios started to butcher.. ah I mean produce comic-book movies and other shows from my generation I vowed that I would make a GI Joe movie. They could mess up everything else, but no one should touch GI Joe. I was very afraid when I heard they were thinking about doing a live action Joe movie. After watching this – the casting seems reasonable, I will pray for good scripting and acting.
